Disease Modifying Anti-osteoarthritis Drug, DMAOD
Kim Hyun-Ah

Abstract
Only recently has there been any significant progress in the treatment of osteoarthritis. There has been a concept that, like in rheumatoid arthritis, treatment for osteoarthritis should alter the course of the disease as well as its symptoms. As osteoarthritis represents one of the prototype chronic diseases that spans decades in progression, it has been very difficult to prove any disease modifying effect of a given agent in humans. Therefore, any agent that shows structure-modifying effect in animal is deemed disease-modifying in current practice. This review presents the currently available disease- modifying anti-osteoarthritis drug (DMOAD) as well as promising agents that has not been tried in humans yet.
